ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATION

TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENTS TO AND FROM ATHLETIC CONTESTS AR 6153

Recognizing its responsibility to safeguard student safety, the Board's policy is that all participating students shall ride District transportation to and from athletic contests. Under exceptional circumstances and with advance notice, the Board grants administration the authority to make exceptions and allow students to be transported by their parent/legal guardian or other responsible adult.

A parent/guardian may take custody of a son/daughter following a contest by personally telling the coach he/she is doing so, and signing a release form.

A parent/guardian may arrange for another responsible adult to take custody of a son/daughter following a contest by sending a signed written release form to the principal or designee designating a specific person. The form shall include the parent/guardian's phone number, the person's relationship to the student, and the date and place of the event. All such requests must be submitted a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the event. After review, the principal or designee will forward a list of approved names to the coach. The designated individual shall be required to show a photo identification to the coach before the student will be released.

The principal of the school will determine the games at which the school will be represented by cheerleaders. When cheerleaders are to represent the school, they will be transported in one of the following ways:

  1. on the rooters' bus, if there is one;
  2. on the team bus, with the permission of the principal;
  3. by District vehicle, driven by a school employee or Board-approved volunteer with a valid driver's license and approved Drivers Registration Form, Exhibit A.
